PINO DANIELE - NERO A META' (EMI 1980)

l'album che ha messo definitivamente Pino sulla mappa. una sapiente fusione di blues funky melodie mediterranee che non ha perso un'oncia di magia nei tre decenni trascorsi dalla sua pubblicazione. ispiratissimo, pieno di classici (Alleria, Appucundria, Quanno Chiove), suonato insieme a dei musicisti M O S T R U O S I, è il disco che proietta Napoli nel mondo senza però rinnegare le sue radici. fra 50 anni sentire core 'ngrato o quanno chiove avrà lo stesso impatto.
un classico.
prima di prendere l'album, casomai foste tra i pochi (escluso i non italiani) che non avessero la minima idea di cosa si parli, ascoltatevi la suite presa dall'album Sciò, il live del 1984.

BIG STAR - THIRD/SISTER LOVERS (Stax/Rykodisc 1978)

Sofferenza. Se molta di questa gente fosse stata sempre bene, avremmo mai ascoltato certi dischi? Pink Moon, Berlin, Metal Box, The Downward Spiral sarebbero mai esistiti? Noi che godiamo di queste bellezze siamo dei parassiti ignobili? E a proposito di Third/Sister Lovers... beh leggete questa ottima recensione qui per farvi un'idea.

il salto da SST a London non inficia i nostri che se ne escono con questo piccolo capolavoro, l'ultimo album notevole della loro produzione. dallo scioglilingua di sam al veloce cowpunk di six gallon pie è un susseguirsi di grandi pezzi suonati da dio: mi ricordo eddie cilià che al tempo definì Curt Kirkwood "Sommo Sacerdote della Sei Corde". ascoltate e gli darete ragione.

AAVV - MASTERS OF MISERY - An EARACHE Tribute to BLACK SABBATH (Earache, 1997)

un tributo altalenante per un'etichetta che qua su kindsaluv raccoglie molti consensi. a convincere maggiormente sono i gruppi più "avant": scorn, godflesh (zero the hero, fantastica), pitchshifter (n.i.b., altrettanto grande). i cathedral sono calligrafici - mai stata l'originalità un loro pregio, ammesso che ne abbiano qualcuno. i brutal truth invece fanno una cover monstre di lord of this world che se non aggiunge niente come inventiva ne aumenta di parecchio il wattaggio.

Sometimes you feel real old, older than you are. Check the aches and pains, the hairline, the demands of life. Responsibilites, responsibilities. Worse things have happened to all of us; the circus wasn't as good as you though it would be, the movie stunk, etc., etc....
Punching the clock, punching the wall, hating your boss. You can't go if you don't know, and you can't know if you don't go. and everybody in the world has their own song in their heads. The best songs ever. Problem is figuring a way to get them out and present them to others.
You've got to know where the brakes are. Enjoy life at a realistic pace. You crazy youngsters, what with your nightlife and everything. And it's important to trust other people, while putting stock in yourself as well. Reevaluating your priorities, checking yourself daily.
Not everyone is a victim of circumstance; conversely, nobody should feel like a martyr all the time. Problem? It's hard enough to communicate these days; some of us don't even get the chance. Some others don't know they have a chance.
When you travel frequently, you find a lot of images. And sometimes, you have to try and make the best of a bad situation: more often than not, we grin and bear it. Other times, you learn to enjoy some small facet of your predicament. Nothing too elaborate, just an attempt to adjust priorities.
Revolution starts at home, preferably in the bathroom mirror.

Example? Winter always comes too soon. This year was the worst I can remember, except when I was five years old. Pushed open the front door, got lost in the snow.

DINOSAUR (JR) - DINOSAUR (1985 Homestead)

ancora alla ricerca di una identità (tanto che per colpa di un paio di rock-cariatidi devono pure cambiare il nome), lou murph e j mascis danno alle stampe quest'opera prima per una delle indie di punta dell'epoca, la Homestead.

ascoltando questi 12 pezzi i nomi che vengono in mente sono tanti: i miei sono r.e.m., cure e ovviamente neil young. sporcati giusti un po' di feedback, qualche puntina di hardcore e ancora una incerta abilità negli strumenti. un'esordio promettente si disse al tempo. con ragione visto il seguito. i pezzi memorabili? repulsion, forget the swan (un'outtake di fables of the reconstruction?) e gargoyle.

PS: la tracklist è relativa al cd ristampato nel 2005. su vinile è diversa da questa
